If you’ve ever wondered about the history of Sonora, TX and the rest of Sutton County, here’s your opportunity to find out up close! Sutton County Historical Society has a variety of historic museums for you to visit and learn about our area. You can easily stroll through these museums, all conveniently located around the courthouse square, on your own or be guided on a downtown tour by one of our knowledgeable tour operators.

Ice House Ranch Museum & Gift Shop:
Housed in a former ice house, this museum displays a beautiful array of old artifacts about ranching in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It also features an exhibit on ‘Wild Bunch’ gang member Will Carver, who met his fate on the streets of Sonora.

Miers House Museum:
View our two-room preservation of one of the city’s earliest houses. This restored historic home features artifacts and memorabilia about the community’s pioneer heritage.

Historical Sutton County Jail:
From 1891 to 1980, this native limestone building housed criminals of all types. It was the makeshift hospital before Sonora's hospital was built. It has been restored to its original condition (plus some fine graffiti from a few of our guests) and can be viewed during our regular hours or through booking a guided downtown tour by checking in at the Ice House Ranch Museum.

Veterans Exhibit:
Located inside the jail, this exhibit is your chance to learn about our local heroes from all branches of the Armed Forces.
